Also known as: HNT

Overview

The Helium network, a prominent decentralized physical infrastructure (DePIN) project, relies on independently operated hotspots to deliver LoRaWAN IoT connectivity and, via its Helium Mobile service, cellular coverage. Hotspot owners receive token incentives for their contributions. Initially built on its own blockchain, Helium later transferred its tokenomics and smart contract operations to the Solana blockchain. A burn-and-mint mechanism governs the system: HNT tokens are earned by hotspot operators for providing and verifying coverage, while users burn HNT to create Data Credits, which are then used to pay for data transmission. Helium Mobile offers a consumer cellular plan supported by carrier partnerships. The network now encompasses hundreds of thousands of hotspots deployed across numerous countries.
