Bridge company
Overview
Stripe completed its acquisition of Bridge, a stablecoin infrastructure firm, on 4 February 2025 for $1.1 billion, having announced the deal on 21 October 2024. The transaction represented Stripe's largest acquisition and, at the time, the highest-value deal in the cryptocurrency sector. Bridge, founded by Zach Abrams and Sean Yu, offers an API-based platform—described as a stablecoin orchestration system—that allows businesses to accept and transfer stablecoin payments. Stripe's rationale for the purchase was to own crypto-enabled payment infrastructure directly rather than relying on an external provider. Post-acquisition, Stripe introduced Stablecoin Financial Accounts, enabling companies in 101 countries to hold dollar-pegged stablecoin balances, receive funds via both crypto and traditional payment networks, and send stablecoins globally. Bridge's stablecoin issuance technology, including products starting with USDB, continues to evolve under Stripe's ownership.
