FTX exchange
Overview
The digital-asset trading platform FTX, established by Sam Bankman-Fried, ceased operations in November 2022 and entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings following revelations that client money had been improperly handled. Bankman-Fried was found guilty of fraud and conspiracy in 2023 and received a 25-year custodial sentence. Under revised leadership, the FTX estate has retrieved billions of dollars in holdings and, beginning in 2025, has been executing a sequence of court-authorised repayments to claimants. The exchange no longer functions and is inactive.
