HyperEVM launch event
Overview
The HyperEVM, an Ethereum Virtual Machine execution environment developed by the Hyper Foundation, launched on mainnet on 18 February 2025. It operates within the same HyperBFT consensus mechanism as Hyperliquid’s existing order-book layer-1, rather than as a separate blockchain, introducing general-purpose smart contract functionality to the network. The initial mainnet version enabled spot transfers of native HYPE and HyperEVM-based HYPE, while support for standard ERC-20 native transfers and precompiles was reserved for subsequent updates. The HyperEVM mainnet uses chain ID 999.
