Phala Eth Migration event
Overview
Phala Network, a confidential-computing protocol that initially operated as a parachain on Polkadot, has transitioned its activities to an Ethereum layer-2 network. The migration unfolded in stages starting in October 2024, with the Ethereum L2 becoming operational in January 2025, well before the November 2025 expiration of its Polkadot parachain lease. A community vote sanctioned the full relocation, transferring staking, governance and confidential-computing functions to an Ethereum-compatible framework, alongside the creation of an ERC-20 token for PHA. Phala cited the shift as a way to cut parachain maintenance costs and unify around a single EVM environment for its TEE-based AI and enterprise-computing work.
