Overview

Uniswap Labs introduced Unichain, its proprietary Ethereum layer-2 network, to mainnet on February 11, 2025, following a testnet phase initiated in October 2024. The network functions as an optimistic rollup constructed on Optimism's OP Stack, aiming to provide decentralized finance users with quicker transaction finality and reduced costs relative to Ethereum layer 1. At launch, Uniswap Labs designated Unichain as a "stage-1" rollup, indicating partial decentralization with certain centrally managed protections still active. Approximately 100 protocols, among them Circle, Coinbase, Lido and Morpho, pledged to deploy on the chain. The rollout additionally established a fresh revenue stream for Uniswap Labs, which stated that around 20% of chain revenue would be directed to the firm.
