Overview
The London hard fork implemented EIP-1559, an Ethereum improvement proposal that overhauled the protocol's transaction fee system. The update created a base fee, which is permanently removed from circulation, alongside a voluntary priority tip directed to miners. The base fee is algorithmically recalibrated in response to network demand.
