R3 Corda protocol
Overview
R3 introduced Corda, an open-source distributed ledger platform targeting regulated enterprises, in 2017. The platform restricts data propagation to only the counterparties involved in a transaction, rather than broadcasting globally as public blockchains do. A notary service ensures transaction uniqueness and settlement finality, while the permissioned network requires all participants to be known entities. Corda supports tokenised assets and multi-party workflows that demand confidentiality and legal enforceability, with primary adoption in financial services and other regulated industries. It has been used in several central bank and market infrastructure trials, including Project Jasper.
